Type 6440 - Servo-assisted 2/2-way piston valve

The Burkert Type 6440 is a servo-assisted 2/2-way piston valve that is normally closed and is used primarily as a safety shut-off valve in fuel cell systems and other hydrogen applications. Its stopper and core guide tube are welded together, which increases pressure resistance and leak-tightness exactly where a reliable seal matters most.

What makes the Burkert Type 6440 piston valve suited to hydrogen

The body is made of stainless steel 1.4404/316L and sealed with EPDM. The coils are moulded in highly chemically resistant epoxy, and sliding rings extend service life when switching dry gases. Besides hydrogen, the valve is suitable for neutral gases such as compressed air or nitrogen. Depending on the version, a kick-and-drop coil is also available, which needs considerably less holding power once the valve has opened.

Which Type 6440 version fits your system?

Flange, cartridge and threaded versions are available for integration. Stationary installations are usually connected via connector form A to DIN EN 175301-803 and reach protection class IP65 with cable plug Type 2518. For mobile applications there is an automotive coil with a KOSTAL MLK1.2 or TE MCON 1.2 connector and protection class IP6K9K. Before choosing, compare orifice, operating pressure, voltage and ambient temperature of the individual items.

Applications for the Burkert Type 6440 valve

Type 6440 reliably shuts off the hydrogen supply in stationary and mobile fuel cell systems and controls neutral gases in other installations. As a dealer listed by Burkert, we source the valves directly from the manufacturer.
